Strawberry Hill began as an 18th century coffee plantation that was
originally deeded by the British Royal Family to Horace Walpole in the
United Kingdom; the property was named after Walpole's English estate,
which was a famous meeting point for the preeminent artists and
socialites of the time.
After changing hands throughout the 20th century, the property was
acquired in 1972 by Chris Blackwell, founder of the much-reputed Island
Records label, which launched the legendary career of Reggae icon Bob
Marley.
Since that time,
Strawberry Hill has continued the tradition of acting as a
destination point for famous musicians, entertainers, Reggae artists,
the fashion elite and discerning travelers. Our blend of authentic
Caribbean culture and cosmopolitan sophistication, with a continuous
emphasis on well-being, makes us a uniquely desirable home away from
home.
At 3,100 feet up, and 30 minutes from the airport, we invite you to come
experience the mystique of an unparalleled mountaintop paradis.
Accommodations
Strawberry Hill's 12 deluxe Georgian style cottages respect the
proportions, materials and craftsmanship of authentic 19th century
Caribbean design. Luxurious, airy and romantic, they feature all the
practical amenities of modern living as well as a tasteful indulgence
for the finer pleasures in life.
The rooms, ranging from one bedrooms, studios and luxury villas, are
individually handcrafted living spaces with an emphasis on detailed
fretwork and furniture that was tooled and finished on site. Royal Hut
fabrics and quality linens complement the dark mahogany furniture,
thereby creating an atmosphere of relaxing intimacy. Four-poster beds
draped with a delicate canopy of muslin netting recreate the classical
nest. French doors, thick louvered windows and spacious private verandas
recall renaissance luxury complimented by the warmth of a homey island
ambiance.
Each cottage features hand-carved fretwork with varying themes; Gong has
carved images of a lion dedicated to the memory of Bob Marley: Highgate
alludes to sensuality and desire: Mountain View is dedicated to the
legacy of Strawberry Hill's workmen. Local Jamaican artwork and
photographs are also integrated into each of the cottage's interiors.
Bathrooms are furnished with terra cotta and hand-glazed tiles, and
feature deep-set bathtubs. Enjoy our distinctive elemental amenities,
whose combination of night flower and a scented ginger known as
Hedychium that only grows in high altitudes is balanced out with
grapefruit and jasmine aromas to create our own special blend of bath
salts, shower gels, shampoos and lotions.
A bathing ritual card and scented candle are prepared at turndown every
evening. Fresh fruit, assorted Jamaican delicacies, fresh spring water
and your recommended Elemental Juice of preference are placed in your
minibar each morning. Plush bathrobes and slippers are also provided for
each guest.
Dining
Strawberry Hill offers a variety of dining locations to suit the
mood of the day. The Library Veranda and Bamboo Room are recommended for
residents and smaller parties. The Jade Vine Terrace is the perfect
setting for weddings and entertainment. The Gold Room caters to
conferences and meetings. The Poolside and Bar Veranda are ideal for
general relaxation. Additionally, for those enjoying the Strawberry Hill
Living Spa, there is a customized menu catering specifically to guests'
individual preferences located within the Spa itself.
Strawberry Hill combines traditional Jamaican dishes and spices with
international recipes to create our own 'New Jamaican Cuisine.'
We also offer a full vegetarian menu, featuring tempting delights such
as curried tofu, Rasta pasta and delicious vegetable lasagna.
Our Spa's Elemental Preferences are indicated on our menus to
accommodate your personal Elemental Nature component.
Additionally, dishes are paired to our wine list in such a manner that
allows you to select within your budget and palette. For example, Clay
Station Voigner and Beringer Knights Valley Alluvium Blanc are both
white wines recommended for our chicken roasts and milder curries. The
dinner menu is rotated every two days and lunch every three days. The
vegetarian and children's menus are available on a daily basis.
The Bar
Offset by a cozy fireplace, an upright piano and an amazing archive of

Collins, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Bob Marley with Stevie Wonder, Sinehead
O'Connor, Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales,

Blackwell, the Bar is the central meeting point and pulse center of the
property.
Desmond, our original and now retired master barman and chief historian,
